What we do



Our primary function is, to advise our clients on their marketing and communication with their target audiences in relation to their products, services.

We explore new markets defined by population groups, product categories, geography and other relevant parameters

This includes products and services which are currently on the market as well as those which are planned for the future.

We use qualitative and quantitative market research as a means to that end.

Our advise is commonly backed up by primary data collected specifically for the defined purpose as well as secondary data which may originate from the clients data base or other, reliable sources.

We can also be contracted for

●sourcing of manufacturers, sales agents, distribution chanels
●customer expectation and satisfaction surveys

I have most recently relocated to Innisfail after living for 30 years in and around Sydney.

As a visitor I have been to this area many times in the last 25 years and know a fair bit about the region, the population and the local industry and business world.

I believe that my expertise in international research in the consumer area could be of significant value to the tourist industry in this area.

We have or are establishing research cooperation in countries such as China, India, South Korea, Japan, Germany, United Kingdom, Northern Europe, Southern Europe, United States of America, South Africa, Uganda, Sub Saharan Africa.

In the industry sector I have some experience in research for the introduction, promotion, distribution of food and agricultural products, having worked extensively for the International Olive Oil Council in Australia, Japan and China.

My international experience can be used in the exploration of export/import markets.

As a small and locally based consultancy company we have the advantage of being directly accessible in the region and offer our services at competitive rates (small company = low overheads)

I started STATUS QUO in 1990 with the clear intention of operating a small and client focused company. Growth and expansion beyond a certain point has never been my intention.

As the Managing Director and owner of the company I am the only full time employed person (more details see personnel)

I manage a small group of free lance interviewers, some of whom have been working for my company for 10 to 20 years now.

For larger projects, samples etc. we subcontract part of the data collection process with Research Connections (formerly also known as Taylor Research,) a Sydney based field organisation with offices and capacities in most Australian Capital cities.

My experience in this field has been accumulated over the last 40 years through working for a diverse range of clients and in approximately 20 different countries.

Professional background

I started my life as a market researcher in 1972 when I became a senior manager in the field department of Infratest in Munich, managing around 2000 interviewers

In 1978 I changed position to become head of department for ad hoc research with focus on the medical and pharmaceutical sector with Infratest. This was also the start of Infratest becoming active in international Research, which was part of my responsibilities.

In 1982 I emigrated to Australia to take up position as senior researcher and, subsequently Managing Director with Foresearch Pty. Limited..

One of my keen interests during that time was expansion into Asia, which lead me to work in countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and others.

STATUS QUO was started in 1990 and my focus was to expand the research activity in Asia, with China, Japan, South Korea, India being the main countries at that time.

My research activities covered diverse sectors such as health, computer software, select food categories, banking and later mobile telephony.

During those times some of the larger and internationally operating European and USA market research companies became regular clients for research design and data collection in Asia and Australia.

In the mid eighties I also established a local office (OZNippon) in Japan to service local clients.

In 2005 I made the step into Africa, establishing an office in Kampala (Uganda) with the aim of servicing international organisations with the need for data from the Sub Saharan countries, including South Africa. (more on Uganda see STATUS QUO Kampala)

Over the last 20 years my range of clients were local companies, internationally operating companies, and EU organisations.

On this page we will, from time to time, publish news about STATUS QUO and our work and make available information material which might be of help for our clients or potential clients.

Most recently, in October 2012, I have relocated the business to Far North Queensland (residing in Innisfail) and I look forward to working with and for some local business in the area.
